Akbar's Policy On Religion

Akbar was a liberal ruler who believed in the basic unity of all religions. Akbar followed a policy of religious tolerance, mixing freely with both Hindus and Muslims. One of the most important steps taken by Akbar to establish equality was the removal of the Jeziya,a tax all non-Muslims were required to pay.

This tolerance towards non-Muslims was reflected in all spheres of Akbar's administrative policy. Many hindus and other non-Muslims were his trusted officers and friends. Mansabs,i.e.administrative position, were given to all who were considered worthy of those ranks, regardless of their religious belief.
